Certified Welding and Repair Operations on Wind Turbines

Wind turbines are large steel structures — tower, nacelle, hub and rotor — operating under continuous dynamic (fatigue) loads. Repairing the high-strength steel components of these structures demands far stricter control than ordinary fabrication welding: preheating, interpass temperature control, post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) and non-destructive testing (NDT) are integral parts of the work.

Windrix performs welding repair operations on the turbine and in the workshop with EN ISO 9606 certified welders with extensive field experience. All operations are carried out in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).

Our Specialty — Yaw Ring and Pitch Gear Tooth Repair

In yaw ring damaged-tooth repairs — one of the most frequently performed welding operations on the turbine — controlled preheating and PWHT are applied using electric resistance heating sets, build-up welding is performed with high-strength Ni-Cr-Mo based consumables, the tooth is ground back to profile with fitting templates within precision tolerance (+0.0 / −0.5 mm), and crack inspection is completed by penetrant testing. Each repair is documented with photographs, and a follow-up inspection is carried out after 3–6 months.

Our Quality and Safety Standards

Our operations are conducted within the framework of EN ISO 9606 (welder qualification), EN ISO 15614 (WPS/PQR), EN ISO 3834, EN ISO 5817, EN 1090, DNV-ST-0126 and IEC 61400, together with the manufacturer's (OEM) quality specifications. Hot Work Permit (HWP), LOTO, dedicated fire watch, confined-space air quality monitoring and full personal protective equipment are mandatory on-site practices; up-tower welding operations are performed by a specialist team.
